But as soon as it comes to terms such as voltage (volts)<\/strong>, capacity (Ah)<\/strong> or energy (kWh)<\/strong>, things get complicated for many people. In this article, we explain in simple terms what is involved \u2013 and how you can quickly get clarity with a voltage calculator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2705 What is a battery anyway?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A battery stores electrical energy \u2013 similar to a petrol tank stores fuel. This energy can then be released when required, for example to drive an electric motor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three most important terms:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Energy (kilowatt hours \/ kWh):<\/strong>
The actual amount of stored energy \u2013 i.e. how much \u201cwork\u201d is possible with the battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voltage (Volt \/ V):<\/strong>
The \u201cpressure\u201d at which the current flows through the system. Higher voltage = more power potential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capacity (ampere hours \/ Ah):<\/strong>
Indicates how much electricity the battery can store. Higher Ah = longer running time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kilowatt hour (kWh)<\/strong> is the unit of measurement for electrical energy \u2013 comparable to liters in a water tank. It indicates how much electricity is available over a period of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy (kWh) = voltage (V) \u00d7 capacity (Ah) \u00f7 1000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A battery with 48 volts<\/strong> and 20 Ah<\/strong> has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
